In 1895, Mrs Willet-Holthuysen left this 17th century double canal-side house to the city of Amsterdam, including the contents and the artworks collected by her deceased spouse Abraham Willet. On the first and second floors, the impressive ballroom, the dining room, the lounges, the garden room and the corridor illustrate how the wealthy Willet couple lived. The kitchens and the utility rooms in the basement give an overview of the day-to-day existence of the staff. The house includes a stunning urban garden, set out in the early 18th century French style. The garden offers an oasis of calm in the heart of Amsterdam.
